Writer Bobby Barbara Smith Promotes Books

Here's what writer Bobby Barbara Smith said about her December 22 book signing in Mountain Home, Arkansas:

Radio Interview to Promote Your Book

Radio interview? Me? I've never given one before. That was my initial response when I was offered a morning drive-time radio interview on the book I co-created, Not Your Mother's Book . . . On Being a Parent."

As soon as those words flashed through my mind, I thought, Wow! What a great opportunity! I am a lucky girl!

Read My Shirt!

When I attended the Willamette Writers Conference in Portland, Oregon in August of 2012, I wanted to promote the two books I was co-creating for Publishing Syndicate, but I wasn't sure how to do it. I printed flyers and had business cards made, but that didn't seem like enough to really draw attention.

A Piggyback Ride for My Flyers

It's no secret that writers don't make money unless they sell their work, and promotion can be expensive. That's why I decided to let my flyers for Not Your Mother's Book . . .On Being a Parent travel along with my husband's flyers.

I Won't Wear a Sandwich Board!

In the fall of 2012, I started gathering stories for two anthologies: Not Your Mother's Book . . . On Being a Parent and Not Your Mother's Book . . . On Being a Grandparent.  Part of my job was to solicit true stories for the books. I wouldn't stand on a street corner wearing a sandwich board, but I wondered what else I could do to draw attention to the new series.
